The highest reward for a person's toil is not what they get for it, but what they become by it.

March 2008: Visiting the Niak Family.

OHF visited the Niak Family home earlier this year.

This is the tiny house which their
grandmother lives with one of her grandchildren. All her children are with Hope village except for two elder daughters. One daughter lives with her husband in another province while the other daughter works as a
construction worker with her husband in Phnom Penh.

The grandmother is shown here
with her eldest daughter who came to visit her. She sends money irregularly
back to her mother as she lives in a province that is very far away.

Srey Neang is one of the five children
staying at Hope Village Prey Veng.

We will see if we can help the grandmother by helping her restart the small farm. We will provide a well and start a vegetable farm for her.

This girl fell five floors while working as a construction worker and broke her wrist. Being daily rated, it means she will not be paid and will also be unable to support her mother. We decided to help her by asking her and her husband to be our guards at Hope Training Centre during the Khmer New Year when the construction workers are off. We will pay them US$50 for that ten days. This is more than the US$3 a day she earns as a construction worker.
