NEPAL
One of the poorest countries in the world, a situation made worse by an ongoing Maoist rebellion. Mainly dependent on agriculture, over 40% of its 25 million people (UN 2003) is estimated to live below the poverty line. It has a life expectancy of 60 years for both men and women, with a GNI per capita of US$250 (World Bank 2001).

CAMBODIA
It is one of the poorest countries in the world with 75% of the workforce living off subsistence farming. Aids is another threat to its future with many children becoming orphans when both parents die of Aids. Its population of 14.1 million (UN2003) has a life expectancy of 55 years (men) and 59 years (women). The GNI per capita is US$300 (World Bank 2002).
