BACKGROUND

The Operation Hope Foundation Ltd was registered as a charity and incorporated as a company limited by guarantee on 4 July 2001. Its company registration number is 20010486W. We were registered as a charity on 7 September 2001and given the Charity Registration Number 01521. It is founded by Robert Kee who has since worked on charity projects in Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia and Nepal. Having seen the need in developing countries, he set up OHF to provide a foundation from which social outreach and community projects can be started and maintained. Rather than donating money to third parties in the countries concerned, OHF will set up its own entities in the various countries and build, manage and own its facilities. In this way, accountability and more important soft skills like programs can be implemented in a structured, disciplined manner.

Operating a charity is not only about providing financial support but to ensure key objectives are met. For example our orphanages are to prepare the children so that they can look after themselves when they leave the orphanage. This means every child has to be given opportunities to develop self confidence, thinking skills and be able to converse in English. Other abilities such as computer literacy, crafts and other skills will help than stand out from the many other young adults seeking jobs.

Running a community outreach project requires development of appropriate technology and methodology which can help to alleviate poverty. The projects requires development work, acquiring the needed technology and science and planning an efficient way to introduce the solution to the poor. There will also be follow up work and continuous enhancement and improvements to the solutions. These kind of work are best done when we have full management control and authority over the overseas staff.

Our very first large scale project is Hope Village Prey Veng. Located in the province of Prey Veng , the 120-children orphanage admitted its first batch of children in Dec 2003.

We have four basic programs as follows:

OHF Child is a program where we build and manage large orphanages for poor orphans and abandoned children. Currently we have one orphanage in Cambodia and Nepal
OHF Volunteer is a overseas community outreach programs where we bring volunteers to Cambodia for community projects such as well drilling, building low cost houses, making soap and other projects Many schools, polytechnics,and churches have participate, in these programs.
OHF Solution is a technology for the poor program here we work with tertiary institutions to develop appropriate technology for the poor. For example we have successfully develop a low cost solar oven which can cook rice, cook vegetables, boil eggs and potatoes.
OHF Skill is our livelihood program to create income generating projects. We have started a polymer clay and soap making business. Hope Training Centre (HTC) will start operations in June 2009. This 70,000 sq ft facility has a large factory unit which houses 12 income generating units as well as 6 houses for staff and volunteers
