Where we work:
Nepal's Country Profile:
One of the poorest countries in the world, a
situation made worse by an ongoing Maoist rebellion. Mainly
dependent on agriculture, over 40% of its 25 million people
(UN 2003) is estimated to live below the poverty line.
It
has a life expectancy of 60 years for both men
and women, with a GNI per capita of US$250 (World
Bank 2001).
Cambodia's Country
Profile: It is one of the poorest countries in the
world with 75% of the workforce living off
subsistence farming. Aids is another threat to
its future with many children becoming orphans
when both parents die of Aids. Its
population of 14.1 million (UN2003) has a life
expectancy of 55 years (men) and 59 years
(women). The GNI per capita is US$300 (World Bank
2002).
