OHF Volunteer Program

OHF Volunteer is an overseas community service project involving volunteers in challenging yet achievable tasks that meet real community needs in the less developed countries. There is much to learn from the world of poverty and much to do for the community. Through the experience of serving the genuine needs of this community, volunteers will learn contentment in simplicity in the lives of these poor rural villagers, personal growth in their character values and soft skills. Apart from this, the cultural exchange will allow our volunteers to gain valuable experiences, which are unattainable in the classroom.  In OHF, we believe that these community service projects are not only fulfilling and purposeful for the volunteers but also they help to provide the significant needs for the local community.

Get into the adventure of a lifetime by serving the poor, the sick, orphans and widows in a less developed country!  With our experienced staff on the field, own vehicles and accommodation,  your safety and security are assured. You would also be guided by our staff who are familiar with the local conditions during the trip.

OHF Volunteer is about:

a) Helping the poor in the developing countries and making a difference to their lives

b) Providing a meaningful and cost effective overseas community project for volunteers

c)  Exposing volunteers to the life of a poor rural community

OHF Volunteer Program benefits both the local community and the volunteers. The local community will benefit from the projects undertaken by the volunteers. The volunteers will also return home with vivid memories of their experience overseas and with a better appreciation of what they have at home.

The projects include:

a) Build a House for a poor family (S$ 3000/house, min 3-6 days, min 8 pax)

b) Drill a Well and Build a Toilet for a cluster of families (S$ 1700/well & toilet, 3 days, min 6 pax)

c) Make and Distribute 500 or 1000 Soaps to the families in the villages. (S$ 800/500 bars, 2 days, min 4-6 pax)

These projects would be excellent team-bonding and team building opportunities for companies, schools, individuals and churches.  This can be an experiential learning platform for all to learn lessons on team work, problem-solving skills and learning to tolerate each other under difficult conditions and unfamiliar environment.

How OHF Works

1) Team leader discusses with OHF on suitable dates, duration of visit and no of team members.

2) OHF presents team leader with a quotation and an itinerary. Program will vary depending on the age and number of volunteers.

3) OHF provides briefing to team before departing to Cambodia.

4) OHF surveys the villages and identifies the needy family.

5) OHF coordinates with its field staff to make the necessary logistic arrangements in Cambodia. This includes purchasing of all materials, providing skilled workers and delivery of materials.

6) OHF Field Staff meets team at airport and works with them on the projects.

7) OHF provides follow-up on the project after the team leave.

Besides helping the local communities, we hope to heightened the awareness of poverty in third world countries amongst Singaporeans. Our perception of "suffering" changes when we see how hard life is for others. We hope that these projects will show how we can make a difference to the lives of others and encourage them to do more for the poor even when they are back in Singapore.
